COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - With the inclement weather creating havoc across the Centennial State with cold and windy conditions, and temperatures in the 40s, the three-day United States Air Force Academy Invitational was limited to one round of singles and two doubles rounds on Friday.

Teams represented at the invitational are the host Falcons, Colorado, Colorado State, Denver, Northern Colorado, Wyoming, Eastern Michigan, Arizona, Oklahoma State, Illinois, South Dakota State, Texas Tech, Oregon and Washington State.

Friday's doubles play took over four and a half hours to complete with most of the morning matches moved indoors on only four courts.

"I'm really happy how the team came out and handled the conditions," CU head coach Nicole Kenneally said. "I'm also happy for our second round of doubles and we look to build on that on Saturday. It was good to see Julyette (Steur) out on the singles court for the first time this year. Today, her play on the court showed the experience of having a semester of collegiate tennis under her belt."

Steur, a second semester freshman from Apeldoorn, The Netherlands, and the 2012 Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Mountain Region Rookie of the Year, defeated junior Misia Kedzierski of Illinois, 6-0, 3-6, 1-0 (4). It was Steur's third career win when playing three sets and her 10th collegiate victory.

Joining Steur winning their fall debut was junior walk-on Mattie Sperry. Sperry received a first round bye in the "Golf" Bracket as did her opponent. The Greeley, Colo. native defeated Brooke Henry of San Diego State, 7-5, 6-1 and advances to the semifinals in her first career collegiate tennis event.

Junior Winde Janssens and freshman Laura Wegleitner lost in three sets, while sophomore Ashley Tiefel, who advanced to the finals in her singles flight last weekend at the Indiana Invitational, lost in straight sets on Friday.

Junior Carla Manzi Tenorio and freshman Mazy Watrous were scheduled to play in singles on Friday, were postponed until Saturday.

In doubles, CU achieved a 4-3 on the first day. Highlighting the tandem portion were senior Erin Sanders and junior Carla Manzi Tenorio going to 2-0 and reaching Saturday's semifinal round in the "Charlie" doubles flight. Sanders and Manzi Tenorio blanked Colorado State's Heffron/Stevens, 8-0 in the Round of 16, then in the Round of 8 defeated the Air Force duo of Hueffner/Magday, 8-4.

In the Alpha Doubles, freshmen Steur and Watrous advanced to the semifinal round after receiving a first round bye as they edged Pac-12 foe Vasilieva and Googe of Washington State, 9-8. In consolation play, Janssens and sophomore Ashley Tiefel lost their opening round match, however evened their record on the day defeating Northern Colorado's Hoolahan/Walters-West, 8-1.

Saturday semifinal and final rounds of doubles begins at 8 a.m. with singles beginning at 4 p.m.
