COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - In the final day of the United States Air Force Invitational, the University of Colorado women's tennis team finished day three with a second place singles finish during Sunday morning and afternoon action.

CU picked up consolation singles victories from freshman Julyette Steur, junior Carla Manzi Tenorio, and freshman walk-on Laura Wegleitner. Junior walk-on Mattie Sperry finished second overall in her bracket falling in the final.

Steur won an exciting match in the Bravo Singles consolation round defeating Sasa Nemcova of Wyoming, 1-6, 7-6(5), 1-0 (13-11), and in the Echo Singles bracket, Manzi Tenorio defeated Pac-12 foe Oregon's Lena Macomson, 6-0, 6-1.

Junior walk-on Matti Sperry was impressive in her first collegiate tennis tournament for the Buffs, defeating Marcelli Magday of Air Force,  6-7, 6-4, 1-0(7) in the semifinals. Sperry would later fall in the finals to AFA's Tasha Hueffner, 6-1, 6-1 later in the day.

CU also saw outstanding play from another walk-on as Wegleitner edged Colorado State's Lauren Pick, 4-6, 6-1, 1-0(6). It was Wegleitner's first career collegiate win as a Buff.

"We are continuing the see improvement on the things we are working on each day," said CU head coach Nicole Kenneally. "We're looking forward to the (Mountain) regional and begin this week's practice on Tuesday in Las Vegas."

CU will begin play at the ITA Regional Oct. 10-14 in its last tennis event of the 2012 season.
