Women's basketball forward Arielle Roberson and men's basketball
guard Spencer Dinwiddie were honored
on Tuesday with the CU Athlete of the Week award for their performances during
the week of Nov. 26-Dec. 2. CU's Athlete
of the Week is sponsored by Silk®, Horizon® and International Delight®.
The freshman Roberson scored a career-high and a team season-high 25
points, with a key late 3-point basket to lead the women's basketball team to a
69-62 road win against Illinois on Saturday. She went 7-of-8 from the field and shot a
season high 10-of-14 free throws. She
also had five rebounds, three steals and an assist.
Her 25 points marked her sixth straight double figure scoring
performance to begin her career, tied for second best in team history. The San Antonio, Texas native also scored 14
points in the victory over Wyoming, going 6-for-10 from the field on Nov.
28. The Buffs have now won 19 straight
regular season non-conference games.
Dinwiddie averaged 24 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 3.5
assists with one block and one steal during the men's basketball's 1-1 week. The nationally ranked Buffaloes defeated Texas
Southern 85-80 at home in double-overtime on Nov. 27, before falling 76-69 at
Wyoming on Saturday. The sophomore tallied
a career-best 24 points in each game, leading CU in scoring in both contests
and becoming the first Buff player since the 2010-11 season to lead the team in
scoring with consecutive 20 or more points scored in a game.
The Woodland Hills, Calif., native, tallied career-highs in field
goals made (8) and attempts (14) against the Cowboys, in addition to a
season-best four 3-pointers and four assists. Against Texas Southern, Dinwiddie played a
team-high 43 minutes, converting 16-of-18 free throws and tying a career-best
with two blocks. Dinwiddie leads the
Buffs in scoring with 16.1 points per game and three-pointers made (14).
This is Roberson's second Athlete of the Week award of the season, and
second in as many weeks, while this is Dinwiddie's first honor of the 2012-13
campaign.
