Women's Golf, Tennis Earn NCAA APR Recognition

Release: 06/14/2012  Courtesy: David Plati, Associate AD/Sports Information

BOULDER - The University of Colorado women's golf and tennis programs were recognized by the NCAA on Thursday, when the organization released its list of teams for the Academic Progress Rate (APR) Public Recognition Awards.

The honor serves to highlight programs that have posted multi-year APR scores in the top 10 percent for their sport.  Both programs earned perfect scores of 1,000; this year's awards were given out to 954 programs nationally, recognizing teams for their APR performance from 2007-08 through 2010-11.   Programs with smaller squads such as golf and tennis usually earn the honor with a perfect 1,000 score.

It's the second straight year that the CU women's tennis team has earned the recognition; last year, men's golf was honored bringing the total to four programs in two years that have achieved the perfect APR score.  The other instance Colorado was honored came during the program's infancy back in 2004-05, when the volleyball team garnered the award.

Thursday's was the first of two releases by the NCAA concerning APR.  The second release will be next Wednesday, June 20, and will include full APR data for teams at every Division I college and university as well as APRs for head coaches.
