BOULDER - University of
Colorado basketball guards Chucky Jeffery and Sabatino Chen received CU Athlete
of the Week honors on Tuesday for their athletic performances during the week
of Dec. 31-Jan. 6. CU's Athlete of the
Week is sponsored by Silk®, Horizon® and International Delight®.
Jeffery, a senior from Colorado Springs, Colo., had a
team-high 17 points and shot 7-of-15 on Friday night in the women's basketball
team's game against the No. 4/3 ranked Stanford Cardinal. She also led the Buffs with five rebounds and
had one steal in the contest, which moved her into sole possession of sixth
place on CU's all-time steals list.
On Sunday against No. 9 California, Jeffery once again led the
team with 13 points while also having team highs in rebounds (8) and assists
(4). Jeffery has now registered an assist in 55 straight games and in 104 of
her 106 career games.
Chen led the men's basketball team with a career-high 18
points after coming off the bench in the men's basketball team's overtime loss
to No. 3 Arizona in Tucson on Thursday.
The Louisville, Colo., native also made what would have been
the game-winning basket as time expired in regulation. However after it was
reviewed, it was determined that the ball had not left his hands when the clock
struck 00.0, forcing the game into overtime where the Buffaloes were defeated 92-83
by the Wildcats. The only senior on the team this season, Chen also had a
team-high five rebounds in the game.
This is Jeffery's second CU Athlete of the Week award of the
season while its Chen's first.
