Higgins and Spears Earn CU Athletes of the Week

BOULDER- Basketball standout's Cory Higgins (junior) and Brittany Spears (junior) earned CU athlete of the week honors for the week of November 30- December 6. This is the first time Spears has earned the award this year and the fourth career honor, while Higgins now has two this year and seven for his career.

Higgins, a Danville, Calif. (The Pendleton School [Bradenton, Fla.]) native, average 18.5 points, 3.0 rebounds, and two steals in two games helping the Colorado men's basketball team to a 1-1 week. CU defeated San Francisco, 78-54 as Higgins scored a game-high 22 points on 9-of-12 shooting. He made his first eight shots, in addition to collecting three steals. The 22-point effort was his fifth 20-point game of the season (17th career). In CU's second game of the week he added 15 points, three rebounds and three assists in the Buffs, 74-69 road loss at Oregon State.    

Spears, a native of Pasadena, Calif. (Notre Dame Prep [Mass.]), had a team high 17 points with five rebounds, four steals and three assists against the University of Denver. She also recorded her 19th career double-double, and Big 12 Conference leading fourth of the season, with 24 points and 12 rebounds in a win over Seton Hall. Spears made a career high five 3-point field goals, hitting 5-of-8 from behind the arc, and went 3-of-5 from the rest of the field to go along with her two steals and two assists.

No other athletes were nominated.
