A three-year letterman (1988-91) … Two-time All-Big 8 and Associated Press first team selection (1989-90, 1990-91) … After leading Hutchinson Community College to the national junior college championship in 1988, he transferred to Colorado where he was the Big 8 Newcomer of the Year as a sophomore in 1988-89 … Ranks among the top five in both career scoring (fifth, 1,876 points) and rebounding (third, 962) … Holds the school-record for career double-doubles (59) and is tied for most doubles in a season (21) … One of two players in school history to average a double-double in each of his three years as a Buff … Also one of two players at CU to have a pair of single-season scoring averages among the top 10 … His junior season was his finest as a player, being named an 1989-90 UPI Honorable Mention All-American after leading the team in scoring (22.3 points per game), rebounding (11.2 per game), blocks (36) and field goal percentage (59.3), in addition leading the Big 8 in scoring … His 668 points during the season became the most scored by a CU big man, a feat he surpassed as a senior in 1990-91 with 699 … In the 1989-90 Big 8 Tournament, Vandiver earned most valuable player honors after he helped CU upset Missouri and Oklahoma State in back-to-back games, as CU became the first No. 8 seed to advance to the title game (he scored 75 points and had 41 rebounds in the three games) … Other school marks he holds are career rebounds by a center (962); consecutive double-figure rebounding games (16); and is tied for first in career field goals made (750) … He is third in career in field goal percentage (.574) … Selected No. 25 overall in the 1991 NBA Draft by the Golden State Warriors, but would play nine seasons overseas in Europe … Once returning to the states, he was an assistant coach at Wyoming, Bowling Green, Northern Colorado and Boise State before being named head coach at Emporia State ahead of the 2011-12 season (he has a 65-70 record in five seasons there).
