Buffs Compete At All-Comers Meet

            AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. ? The University of Colorado track and field team recorded a great start to the 2008 indoor track and field season at the Air Force Academy All-Comers Meet on Friday night.

 

            Ryan Campbell took top honors in the 200-meter dash to led the sprinters. He crossed the line in 21.58 seconds to edge out runner-up Corey Nelson who came in at 21.71. Campbell also took third in the 60-meter dash after clocking a time of 6.84.

 

            Freshman A.J. Whitaker was right on Campbell's tail in the 60 as he placed fourth with a mark of 6.91. Whitaker also took fifth in the 200 (21.99). Jeremy Dodson took third in the 400-meter run (49.63) and Matthew McCathran finished fourth in 49.93.

 

            Dyamond Seay led the CU women sprinters. She finished the 400-meter dash with a time of 58.56 seconds and placed third overall. Three others placed in the top 10 of the 400 as Joi Windham was seventh (59.86); Brianne Beemer was eighth (59.94) and Toi Windham took ninth (60.70).

 

            The women sprinters were also successful in the 4x440-yard relay as they placed second overall; clocking a time of 3:58.09. Veronica Maul led off the relay and handed off to Toi Windham. Joi Windham ran the third leg and Seay finished it off. CU came in 2.08 seconds behind Tulane (3:56.01).

 

            Martin Medina took second place in his collegiate debut in the 3,000-meter run; the only Buff to run a distance event at the meet. He was the top collegiate finisher with a time of 9:05.86. Medina had the lead heading into the bell lap, but was not able to hang on as Adam Rich passed him in the final 200 meters. Rich finished in 9:04.65.

 

            In the men's field events, Parker Fales recorded his first collegiate first-place finish in the long jump after he jumped 21 feet, 8.00 inches. It was less than an inch farther than the runner up (Dillon Stuckey, AFA) who recorded a mark of 21-07.25. Chase Dukes earned a fourth-place finish in the weight throw (52-06.50).

 

            Katie Dreher was the top female finisher in the field as she took second in the triple jump. Dreher recorded a jump of 35-3.00. Beemer did well in the long jump as she took fifth overall with a leap of 16-8.50. Teammate Alyssa Frank also recorded a top-five finish in the high jump (5-03.00), placing fifth overall.

 

            Colorado will be back in action next Friday and Saturday, Jan. 23-24, as it will host the Potts Indoor Invitational at Balch Fieldhouse.
