Phillip Lindsay Named Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Week

October 17, 2016 | Football

SAN FRANCISCO – Colorado junior running back Phillip Lindsay was named the Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Week, the conference office announced Monday.

In addition to his Pac-12 honor, which is the first of his career and the first by a Buffalo running back since Rodney Stewart on Nov. 20, 2010  in the Big 12, Lindsay was also recognized by the College Football Performance Awards as an honorable mention selection for its National Performer of the Week Award.

Lindsay rushed for 219 yards on 26 carries with three touchdowns, averaging 8.4 yards per carry and he also caught four passes for 20 yards in CU's 40-16 win over Arizona State.

It was the first 200-yard game by a CU player since Chris Brown had 211 at Missouri in a 42-35 overtime win on Nov. 9, 2002, and Lindsay did so against the Sun Devil defense that came into the game as the nation's No. 5 rushing defense. It was the first 200-yard game against Arizona State since Washington State's Jerome Harrison had 240 in 2005.

Lindsay did not lose a single yard on any of his 26 carries in the game, and it was the sixth-highest game in CU history with no yards lost rushing.

He ranks fourth in the Pac-12 this season in rushing (87.7 ypg) and fourth scoring (8.6 ppg) as he has scored a touchdown in 6-of-7 games. His three rushing touchdowns versus ASU was a career-high.

Colorado has now seen three different players collect Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Week honors (Sefo Liufau-Sept. 5; Steven Montez-Sept. 26) and one Special Teams selection (Davis Price-Oct. 3). The four total conference player of the week awards through seven games this year are already the most Colorado has received since the 2007 season when four Buffs (three special teams, one defense) won the Big 12 weekly award.
