
The Rise: Buffaloes Sign Two Junior College Transfers

Buffs add a pair of defensive players to join the team in January
BOULDER – Head coach Mike MacIntyre of the 10th-ranked Colorado Buffaloes announced Wednesday that nose tackle Javier Edwards and cornerback Dante Wigley have signed National Letters of Intent with the Buffs.

Both are junior college transfers and will enroll at CU for the 2017 Spring semester. Wigley will have three years to complete his three remaining seasons of eligibility while Edwards has three years left to complete his two remaining seasons of eligibility.

The duo will help bolster the Buffalo defense that will graduate eight defensive starters from their 2016 team that went 10-3, won the Pac-12 South Division title and enters the Dec. 29 Valero Alamo Bowl ranked No. 10 in the College Football Playoff Rankings.

AT BLINN COLLEGE: Was a second-team All-Southwest Junior College Football Conference selection in 2016 as a sophomore and garnered honorable mention accolades his freshman season. In eight games for the Buccaneers in 2016 he recorded 24 tackles, two sacks and 3.5 tackles for losses. His freshman year he recorded 29 tackles, including one for a loss, in nine games.

HIGH SCHOOL: Garnered all-district accolades out for Aldine Davis High School as a senior in 2014 when he led his team to the first round of the playoffs. He also was a member of the track and field team, competing in the discus.

PERSONAL: He was born on Oct. 27, 1996 in Houston, Texas. He is the son of Regina Edwards and he has two siblings, Alonzo Edwards and Arianna Rosero.

AT HOLMES COMMUNITY COLLEGE (2016, RFr.): Played in all 10 games at Holmes Community College in Goodman, Miss., helping the Bulldogs to a 7-3 record and a victory in the 2016 Graphic Edge Bowl. Holmes finished the 2016 season ranked No. 7 in the NJCAA and the bowl appearance was its first in 28 years. He recorded 30 tackles on the season, including three for a loss and blocked one kick. He scored one touchdown in 2016, which came in a 63-49 win over No. 15 Itawamba Community College when he stripped an ICC receiver of the ball and raced 66 yards into the end zone. He had a team-high six pass breakups on the season for the Bulldog defense that allowed only 374.1 yards of offense per game.

As a senior he recorded 65 tackles, eight pass breakups, forced two fumbles and had two interceptions in 10 games while not allowing a receiving touchdown. He was a team captain his senior year. During his junior season he recorded 64 tackles, six pass breakups on defense while scoring five total touchdowns; one came on an interception return and then he had two each rushing and receiving. He led his team to 2013 state championship game.
