CU freshman takes first place in the slalom race held in Panorama, British Columbia
BOULDER – University of Colorado freshman David Ketterer won the men's slalom at the Canada Nor-Am Cup held in Panorama, British Columbia on Sunday, one of two podium finishes for the Buffalo freshman skier over the past weekend.
Ketterer, a native of Bad Durrheim, Germany, had a two-run total time of 1:34.21 on Sunday to finish 0.91 seconds ahead of Phil Brown from Canada to win the men's slalom. Brown is a member of the Canadian national team who is the 61st-ranked slalom skier in the world and represented Canada in the 2014 Winter Olympic Games held in Sochi, Russia.
Ketterer's first run time of 46.03 was the fastest of any competitor in the field and was one of just two sub 46-second runs on Sunday. His second run was 48.18.
He drew another podium finish on Saturday, finishing third in the men's slalom. His first run of 44.40 was his fastest while on run two he finished in 49.01.
Ketterer scored 9.08 FIS points for his win on Sunday and 13.58 for his third-place showing Saturday, both of which should help lower his point tally before the start of the collegiate season.
In what has been a strong month for the Buff newcomer, he now has three podium finishes heading into the winter break ahead of the NCAA season, which for the CU alpine team begins Jan. 8-9 at the Montana State Invitational.
Back on Dec. 1 in a FIS race at Copper Mountain, Ketterer finished third in the giant slalom behind teammates Max Luukko and Ola Johansen. Prior to this last weekend he had a world rank of 164 with 16.82 FIS points in the slalom and is 186th with 17.60 FIS points in the giant slalom.
