BOULDER — The University of Colorado has added three more games to its future football schedules, including the renewal of a series with a longtime rival, and also swapped years for two opponents in Boulder in the years 2019 and 2020.
The Buffaloes and Kansas State have agreed to a home-and-home series later next decade, as the Wildcats will travel to Boulder on Sept. 18, 2027, with CU returning the game in Manhattan on Sept. 16, 2028. Former conference rivals dating back to 1948 when Colorado joined the then-Big 7 Conference, the schools played 66 games against one another, with CU leading the series, 45-20-1. The last meeting in 2010, prior to when the Buffs left to join the Pac-12 Conference, was a true barn-burner as CU escaped with a 44-36 home win, the highest scoring game in the series.
K-State becomes the third former Big 12 rival to land on a future CU schedule. Nebraska was signed to a four-game series in 2012 and a two-game match-up with Texas A&M was signed in 2015.
The Buffaloes have also added a game against current Football Championship Subdivision powerhouse North Dakota State, winners of the last five FCS Championship games. NDSU will visit Boulder for the 2024 season opener on August 31, and also has a bison as its mascot, and goes by that nickname.  Despite the schools being only 630 miles apart, it will be the first-ever meeting between the two, as well as CU's first-ever game against an opponent with the same mascot. Â
CU and Air Force were set to renew their rivalry in 2020, but that game was moved to Sept. 14, 2019, when Fresno State was set to visit Boulder; the Bulldogs will now come to Folsom Field on Sept. 12, 2020. Both schools agreed to switch seasons as part of "domino effect" with several other schools to aid them in completing their schedules. Thus, "only" 45 years will pass between the last time the Buffs and Falcons last played, a 28-27 CU win at the Air Force Academy on Oct. 5, 1974.
