Burke Joins Tennis Coaching Staff

August 18, 2016 | Tennis

BOULDER – University of Colorado tennis coach Nicole Kenneally announced Kieran Burke will join her staff as an assistant coach for the 2016-17 season. Burke will replace Blake Mosley, who was an assistant for three years before accepting the head coaching position at Appalachian State earlier this summer.

Burke joins the Buffaloes with five years of collegiate coaching experience at the NCAA Division I level. He spent the 2015-16 season as a volunteer assistant at Vanderbilt and the previous four seasons as an assistant coach and associate head coach at Boston College.

"I am thrilled that Kieran has joined my staff," Kenneally said. "With Kieran's experience at Boston College leading the team to heights not seen, as well as this past year at Vanderbilt, and the insight with the defending national championship team, I believe he has a unique [perspective]. He is joining our program at a fantastic time and I look forward to working with him now and in years ahead."

With Vanderbilt, he helped the Commodores reach the national semifinals, falling to eventual national champion Stanford in a tight 4-2 decision after defeating Virginia, Auburn, Rice and SIU Edwardsville. He worked extensively with ITA All-Americans Francis Altick and Sydney Campbell, who were also all-SEC selections. Altick was also named ITA Most Improved Player during the season. His main responsibilities at Vanderbilt were coaching technique and improving specific areas of players' games through individual workouts, while implementing video analysis and fitness bands to the program.

At Boston College, he served four seasons as an assistant coach and associate head coach. He was responsible for all areas of recruiting and developed training and practice schedules, as well as providing skill instruction. The Eagles saw steady improvement throughout Burke's tenure, winning one ACC match in the season prior to his arrival, to seven conference wins in his final year with the program—the best season in Boston College history. Also in his final season at BC, Jessica Wacnik became the first player in school history to win the Northeast ITA Region singles championship.

He also has had several years of experience serving as a private coach in the Boston area.

A native of Morristown, N.J., Burke earned his bachelor's degree at Harvard and majored in sociology.
