Buffs Move Up to 16th In Latest AVCA Poll
September 19, 2016 | Volleyball
BOULDER — Colorado moved up two positions to 16th in the latest AVCA Division I Coaches Poll, which was released on Monday afternoon.
Colorado, which had been ranked 18th for the previous two polls, moved up to 16th, its highest ranking since 1998, for its third straight week in the rankings.
CU recorded 607 points this week and is one of six Pac-12 Conference teams ranked. Washington is fourth and is followed by UCLA (9), Stanford (11), Colorado (16), Southern California (21) and Oregon (24). Utah and Washington State are both receiving votes this week.
The Buffs defeated Chicago State (3-0), New Orleans (3-0) and instate rival Colorado State (3-1) to take home the Omni Invitational crown last weekend; but what made the weekend even sweeter was snapping the seven-match, 14-year losing streak to the Rams on Saturday night. Prior to CU's Sept. 17 victory of Colorado State, the Buffs' last win against the Rams came in 2002.
Colorado is now 5-0 at home this season, 8-2 overall, and will open the Pac-12 portion of the schedule on Wednesday, Sept. 21, at 7 p.m. against Utah (10-2).
