Oleynik To Join Buffs For Spring Season
January 09, 2017 | Tennis
BOULDER - Colorado women's tennis coach Nicole Kenneally announced the addition of Ilana Oleynik for the spring 2017 season on Monday. Oleynik will be eligible to compete immediately and has three years of eligibility remaining.
Oleynik is a transfer from Cal Poly, where she won five singles matches as a freshman last year, while competing in the top three spots in the lineup.
"We are excited to have Ilana join our program," Kenneally said. "With Ilana already having a year and a half of college experience is a bonus. She is really energized to play Pac-12 tennis and to challenge herself to new levels. This mentality will fit right in with the team we have and it will be fun to see her compete and start this new chapter in her tennis career."
A native of Pacific Palisades, California, she was a four-year letterwinner in high school and went undefeated in league play as the team's No. 1 singles player all four years. She was ranked as high as No. 3 in the state of California in doubles during her career and was an all-conference selection as a senior. Academically, she had a 4.0 grade point average and was named to the Principal's Honor Roll four years.
In open play, she was ranked as high as No. 2 in the nation in 2012 in the 16s age group for doubles, winning several championships. Two of her doubles titles included the International Spring Championships and the Palm Desert Regional Segment Level 3 national championship in 2012 and 2013, respectively. In singles play, she was the 18s age group champion in 2013 at the Santa Monica Open.
CU opens the spring season on Jan. 14 at the Indiana Invitational and begin dual match play at home on Jan. 21 against Northern Colorado at the Rocky Mountain Tennis Center with first serve set for 1 p.m.
