October 01, 2017 | Tennis
BOULDER – Juniors Brigitte Beck and Ilana Oleynik teamed up to defeated New Mexico's Yue Lin Chen and Bronte Murgette 6-4 to close out the 2017 Colorado Invitational undefeated in doubles action after the final day of action Sunday here on CU's South Campus Tennis Complex.Â
In the only other match of the day for the Buffs, junior Anabelle Andrinopoulos and freshman Linda Huang fell to New Mexico State's Rebecca Kiejzerwaard and Vanessa Valdez in a tiebreaker, 7-6 (1).Â
Play was delayed approximately 90 minutes to allow the courts to dry from some overnight condensation, and the first rounds were underway shortly after 10:30 a.m.Â
Â
NOTE:
Beck and Oleynik both finished the CU Invite a perfect 3-0 in doubles action. The duo won together in Saturday's third round while Oleynik teamed up with Janezze Daneil in the second round and Beck also won with Huang in the first round, both on Thursday.
QUOTABLE:
"We only had two doubles matches and one singles match today," CU coach Nicole Kenneally said. "Ilana played well in singles. In doubles, it just shows us what we have to continue to work on, which is what you would expect early in the season.
"Expectations are always high, you want to play at a high level, but at the same time, it's the first tournament people are playing together. It's always an opportunity to see where we are, that's how we learn and know what we need to continue to work on. Everybody has their strengths and weaknesses."
UP NEXT:
The ITA All-American Championships are next up for the Buffs, starting Tuesday in Los Angeles and running through Oct. 9. After that, the ITA Mountain Regional will take place in Salt Lake City Oct. 12-15. Â
