October 12, 2017 | Soccer
BOULDER - Colorado's women's soccer team will face its third top-10 opponent in a span of three week on Friday when the Buffs (7-4-3, 1-3-1 Pac-12) travel to No. 6 Southern California. That match kicks off at 5 p.m. MT and will be televised on Pac-12 Network and Pac-12 Mountain.
SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
USC enters the match 10-1-1 overall, including 4-0-1 in the Pac-12. The Women of Troy are tied for second in the Pac-12 with 13 points, two behind first-place and No. 1-ranked Stanford. USC's lone loss this season came 2-1 on the road at Kansas. Since then, they are unbeaten in nine straight matches, a winning streak that was interrupted by a scoreless draw with Utah to open Pac-12 play. Since the Utah match, USC has defeated both Oregon schools at home and both Arizona schools on the road.
Four players are currently tied for the team lead in goals with four each. Freshmen Savannah DeMelo and Tara McKeown also each have four assists for a total of 12 points to lead the team. DeMelo redshirted last season after playing in the FIFA U-20 World Cup for the United States and was named Top Drawer Soccer Freshman Preseason All-America. Junior Leah Pruitt and senior Alex Anthony also have four goals each to go with two and one assists, respectively.
On the back half of the field, junior defender Ally Prisock was named Top Drawer Soccer third-team Preseason All-America, has started all 12 matches and leads the field players in minutes played. She helps goalkeeper Kaylie Collins, who has a 0.65 goals-against average and .771 save percentage. She has played all but 17 minutes of the Trojans's minutes in goal this season.
LOOKING AHEAD
CU will play its final two home matches of the season next weekend when Arizona State and Arizona visit Prentup Field. Senior Day will take place on Sunday, Oct. 22, against the Wildcats with a 1 p.m. kickoff.
