Jank, Johansen Earn UCHealth CU Athlete of the Week Honors
December 12, 2017 | Women's Basketball, Skiing
Ola Johansen (men's skiing) and Annika Jank (women's basketball) have been named this week's UCHealth CU Athletes of the Week for their outstanding performances last week.
Â
Johansen, a junior from Norway, owned this weekend's FIS event at Vail Mountain. He won two slalom races and collected two more podium finishes in the giant slalom. In his first slalom race, Johensen edged out University of Denver's Alex Leever, a U.S. Ski Team member, for first place. Johansen then posted a time of 46.23 in Friday's second slalom race, giving him the win over Dartmouth's Nef Tanguy by just over a tenth of a second. He finished third in Friday's giant slalom race, before capping the weekend off on Sunday with a second-place finish in the same event.
Â
On the hardwood, freshman forward Annika Jank shined in the Buffs' 70-67 win at Colorado State last Wednesday night. Jank recorded her third double-double of the young season, scoring a career-high 22 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. She shot an efficient 9-of-15 from the field, and was 2-of-3 from long range including a key 3-pointer in the fourth quarter. Jank also added a pair of assists, a block and a steal.
Â
Other noteworthy performances: David Ketterer (men's skiing) and Petra Hyncicova (women's skiing). Ketterer and Hyncicova were competing for their national teams, and were thus ineligible for CU's Athlete of the Week.
Â
Ketterer, a sophomore downhill skier and member of the German National Team, raced to his best World Cup finish at this weekend's FIS World Cup event at Val d'Isere. He posted a two-run time of 1:47.33, which earned him a 26th place finish and the first World Cup points of his career.
Â
Hyncicova, a senior Nordic skier, was also in France last weekend competing with her Czech National Team at Saturday's Premenon-Les Tuffes OPA Continental Cup. She finished fifth in the 10K classic with a time of 35:10.2.
