TUCSON, AZ -- The University of Colorado tennis team fell behind early to Arizona at the LaNelle Robson Tennis Center here Friday, and could not recover. The 4-0 loss dropped the Buffs to 8-4 overall and 0-1 in Pac-12 play. This was the conference opener for both schools.
Arizona (9-3, 1-0) took the doubles point going 2-1 in doubles matches with CU's lone win coming from the pairing of Nuria Ormeño Ruiz and Kyra Wojcik, 6-4, over Arizona's Marie Van Aelst and Maggie Cohen.
In the singles matches, Ormeño Ruiz had one of the toughest matchups all season against No. 31 ranked Lauren Marker. She dropped the first set 6-0 and tried to battle back but dropped the second set 6-2.Â
Arizona earned straight-set victories at No. 1, No. 3 and No. 6 singles, respectively to extend their lead and win the match 4-0.Â
The Buffs take on Arizona State tomorrow at 12 PM MST at the ASU Whiteman Tennis Center to close out the weekend.
