Buffs Earn First Ever Top-Five Ranking
March 13, 2017 | Lacrosse
BOULDER — Colorado continues to impress the collegiate lacrosse world and now, for the first time in school history, the Buffaloes are ranked fourth in the Cascade/Inside Lacrosse media poll.
Â
CU upset Penn State (16-11) on March 12, rallying back from a 7-3 deficit to hand the Nittany Lions their first loss of the season. (PSU had been ranked fifth in the media poll, sixth in the coaches' poll, at the time.) The win extended CU's program record season start to 7-0, which is also the longest win streak in school history.
Â
That win moved the Buffs up from eighth in last week's poll, to fourth overall this week. They are one of just three unbeaten programs left in the NCAA Division I.
Â
Colorado also moved up in the other two polls. The Buffs improved from ninth to sixth in the Nike/US Lacrosse Magazine poll and went from 10th in last week's coaches' poll, to seventh this week.
Â
All three polls have the same two programs in the top two positions. Maryland (6-0) remained first for the third straight week, while North Carolina (6-1) stayed at second.
Â
Colorado won't have much down time this week with a pair of games in Boulder. The Buffs will host Winthrop on Wednesday, March 15, at 3 p.m. and on Sunday, March 19, they will face MPSF rival Oregon at 12 p.m.
