Wedel Joins Buffs Coaching Staff For 2017-18
August 31, 2017 | Women's Basketball
BOULDER – Colorado women's basketball coach JR Payne announced the addition of Tad Wedel to her coaching staff on Thursday. Wedel will fill the position that was held by Alex Earl last season. Earl moved to an assistant coaching position with the Buffs after Jeff Cammon left to become the head coach at Long Beach State.
Wedel's position of Creative Recruiting and Media Coordinator will still consist of Earl's video coordinator duties from last season, but his main emphasis will be in the area of recruiting. He will utilize his innovative skills to develop creative recruiting pieces for social media that will enhance the entire Buffs recruiting process.
"We are very excited to have Tad join our basketball family here at CU," Payne said. "As the Creative Recruiting and Media Coordinator for our program, Tad will bring an innovative flare to what we are doing and allow us to really move the dial from a recruiting perspective."
He joins the Buffs after spending two seasons at Tulsa as the women's basketball video coordinator. In that position, he broke down film for players and coaches, oversaw scouting services, and created recruiting graphics and videos for social media platforms. Prior to his time at Tulsa, he served as a student manager with the Kansas women's basketball program.
Wedel completes Payne's coaching staff for the 2017-18 season, which includes returning staff members Toriano Towns, Shandrika Lee, Alex Earl and Jill Mahoney.
CU finished the 2016-17 season 17-16 overall and reached the third round of the Women's NIT in Payne's first season with the program. It was the first postseason appearance of the Buffs since 2014.
