Tennis Excited to Begin Fall Season

September 27, 2017 | Tennis

BOULDER - As the University of Colorado women's tennis team gears up for the first tournament of the fall, the team is looking to capitalize on a productive offseason. The Buffs are hosting Oklahoma, New Mexico State and University of New Mexico in the four-day Colorado Invitational beginning Thursday at the South Campus Tennis Complex.

This format of this tournament brings a lot of opportunity for athletes to play a lot of tennis and to try out different lineups.

"Our singles play will have a couple of eight man draws," head coach Nicole Kenneally said. "Then we will have a couple of four man draws. That allows every player to have three singles matches. Doubles we do it more in a fashion where coaches get to switch pairs per round. Obviously you are always trying to find the chemistry with two players on the court so this way a coach is allowed to play with the same teams or switch it around."

Play will begin Thursday at 3:30 p.m. at the CU South Campus Tennis Complex. Teams will get in three doubles sets the first day. Friday will begin at 9:00 a.m. and will include two sets of singles. Saturday similar will begin at 9:00 a.m. as well and will see one more singles and at least one doubles set. Sunday will conclude the play, again beginning at 9:00 a.m. with more doubles being played.

"Looking forward to hosting this annual event which brings some of the best players inside our region as well as outside of our region to CU South to compete," head coach Nicole Kenneally. "It's our first event so it will provide us an opportunity to see where we are and what we need to continue to work on. Go Buffs!"
