AT UCLA: Baird raced three times as a freshman for the Bruins. She placed 64th overall at the Roy Griak Invitational and went on to place 120th at the Nuttycombe Wisconsin Invitational. At the Pac-12 Championships, Baird was 44th, finishing in 21:49.5. She did not compete during the indoor track season, but did run outdoors for UCLA. Baird recorded a season-best of 4:33.86 in the 1,500 to finish sixth at the Jim Bush Collegiate Invitational.
HIGH SCHOOL: Baird was an all-state selection in cross country in 2015 and on the track in 2016. As a senior on the cross country team in 2015, she was named the team’s MVP after winning the regional meet and placing sixth at the state championship. Her team also won the state meet for the second straight time that year. Baird also clocked a 15th place finish at the Nike Southwest Regional meet where her team won the title. On the track as a senior, she competed at the state meet in three events. Baird was seventh in the 1,600 and 3,200-meter runs and was 13th in the 800.
HIGH SCHOOL BESTS: 800-meters: 2:18.77; 1,600-meters: 5:07.38; 3,200-meters: 11:11.19.
IN THE CLASSROOM: Baird intends to major in business management.
PERSONAL: Sophie Camille Baird was born on March, 23, 1998 in Orem, Utah. She is the daughter of Daron and Camie Baird and has three sisters, Addy, Hazel and Millie. Baird enjoys cooking, reading and skiing, as well as spending time with her family and played the violin for eight years.
