Serena Rodriguez, the creative director for women’s basketball, rejoined the CU Athletic Department in July 2023 as a graphic designer and photographer. She spent a year in this role before moving over to work specifically with the Colorado women’s hoops team, leading creative direction and execution of all digital, social, and recruiting content for the program.
In her role, Rodriguez designs and produces graphics, motion assets, and multimedia content to support brand growth and recruiting efforts for CU WBB, and she directs photography and video coverage for games, practices, recruiting visits, and team events. Rodriguez has a thorough collaboration with coaches and communications staff to plan and execute social media strategies and the basketball content calendar. She also develops recruiting campaigns, NIL branding initiatives, and on-campus visit experiences for prospective student-athletes.
Rodriguez has experienced multiple trips to the NCAA tournament with the women’s basketball team, as well as capturing and directing content at the Big 12 Tournaments. Before working with WBB, she worked with a wide range of different sports at CU, including but not limited to soccer and football, and she worked with campus initiatives.
Her Colorado tenure began in undergrad as a football recruiting assistant in May 2021, where she created football information graphics for the recruiting department and worked with prospective student-athletes when visiting campus for events. In January 2022, she shifted into a graphic design role before heading to Virginia Tech for a little over a year.
At Virginia Tech, Rodriguez served at Assistant Director of Football Creative Media for around a year and a half. In this role, she collaborated with the Director of Creative Media to build a cohesive message, brand consistency, and purpose. She also designed and created mass recruiting materials to be sent to prospective football student athletes. Additionally, she consulted with football coaches on their needs for recruiting content specific to each position and/or individual, and she photographed football practices, games, and other events for social media and recruiting.
Rodriguez graduated in 2021 with a bachelor’s degree in information science and information technology from the University of Colorado’s College of Media, Communication and Information. During college, she spent time as a lifeguard, teachers assistant, and served as Alpha Phi International Fraternity Chapter President.
