CU freshman David Ketterer wins his second men’s slalom race at a NorAm Cup in the last three weeks while senior Roger Carry won the giant slalom at Eldora on Wednesday

BOULDER – University of Colorado skier David Ketterer won the men's slalom race Wednesday at the Alpine NorAm Cup held at Spruce Peak in Stowe, Vt.

For the CU freshman it is his second slalom victory at a NorAm cup event in three weeks, backing up his victory on Dec. 18 at the Canada NorAm Cup held in Panorama, British Columbia.

Ketterer's two-run total time of 1:55.48 was 0.21 seconds faster than Hig Roberts to take first-place in the race. Roberts, a native of Steamboat Springs, Colo. who skied collegiately at Middlebury, is a now member of the U.S. Ski Team.

Roberts' first run time of 56.94 was the fastest in the field to start the day, but Ketterer was right behind in second with a time of 57.29 on his first run. Ketterer then jumped ahead on his second run, posting a time of 58.19 that topped Roberts' 58.75 and jolted him to the victory.

With his win, Ketterer scored 11.71 FIS points, which will again help lower his point tally like it did after his win at the Canada NorAm Cup. In the latest FIS points list standings released on Dec. 29, Ketterer was ranked 84th in the world in the men's slalom.

Joining Ketterer at the NorAm Cup was sophomore Max Luukko, who after finishing 17th in the giant slalom on Monday, did not finish his first run in Wednesday's men's slalom race.

In other non-NCAA skiing action, five Buffaloes competed in a FIS Race held at Eldora Mountain Resort, Jan. 2-3.

Senior Roger Carry took first place in Wednesday men's giant slalom race with a two-run time of 2:09.00. It is a good sign on his road to recovery, as his junior 2016 season was cut short with a knee injury after three meets last year.

Another senior, Katie Hostetler, finished in fifth place in Wednesday's ladies giant slalom.

Three CU freshman were also in competition at Eldora. Bobby Moyer on the men's side finished 10th in Tuesday's giant slalom race while Megan McGrew was 14th on the women's side of Tuesday's race. Andrea Arnold competed in the giant slalom both days, but did not finish her second run on Tuesday or her first run on Wednesday.

The intercollegiate season for CU kicks off this weekend with the Nordic teams traveling to the Utah Invitational, Jan. 7-8, at Soldier Hollow Resort in Midway, Utah, and the alpine squads competing at the Montana State Invitational, Jan. 8-9, being held at the Big Sky Resort.

Also on the docket is a RMISA giant slalom qualifier on Jan. 7, hosted by Montana State. The RMISA qualifier races do not count towards any team scoring, but are used as an extra opportunity for skiers to earn qualification points for the NCAA Championships at the end of the season.
