
Buffs Close out CSM On Strong Note

GOLDEN, Colo. – The University of Colorado track and field team closed out the Colorado School of Mines Alumni Classic and Multi here Friday on a strong note collecting multiple event titles.
TOP PERFORMANCES
MEN'S
Andrew Ghizzone moved up two places in the final events to finish second overall in the heptathlon. Ghizzone tied his score from a year ago with 5,405 points which breaks his own heptathlon school record. He was fourth entering the second day of competition and turned in a solid day across the three events he participated in to work his way up to second.
Ghizzone took the pole vault title with an impressive showing earning not only a PR but extending his pole vault school record to 16-2.75.
Alexander Billings won the 60 hurdles event title with a time of 8.36. In field events, freshman Gunner Rigsby took second in the triple jump with a solid 48-0.
WOMEN'S
Bri Gibbs put together an incredible opening weekend in the pole vault. The sophomore cleared a school record 12-0.75/3.68 on the second try. Gibbs attempted the 3.78 height but didn't clear it. The previous CU pole vault school record came in 2002 when Megan Buttner cleared a 11-6.5.
In the triple jump the CU women took all three spots as Maja Wichhart-Donzo won the event at 38-2.25/11.64, Sarah Hopkins took second with 37-9.50 and Cheyenne Cheshier took third (37-8). Rajon O'Quinn added another field event title in the high jump as she cleared a 5-6.50/1.69 height.
Mariah Walker had a solid opening meet taking the shot-put event title with a solid 46-7.25/14.20 toss.
On the track, youth served as freshman Valerie Welch took first with an 8.60 time. Sophomore, Eriana Henderson finished third with a 8.81. The prelims were no different as Welch took first (8.68) and Henderson third (9.04).
UP NEXT
The Buffs will kick off the 2018 season with the Potts Indoor Invitational in the IPF on January 12-13.
