
Women’s Golf Places Fourth at Bruin Wave Invite

SAN LUIS OBISPO, CALIF. — The University of Colorado women's golf team closed out the Bruin Wave Invitational with a solid showing here on Tuesday as they finished the very competitive tournament in fourth place.
After play was suspended due to darkness on Monday, the Buffs wrapped up a tough second round on Tuesday morning coming in sixth overall. The Buffs posted the fifth best second round team score even with the windy conditions out on the course firing a 20-over par 312. CU coasted the rest of Tuesday firing a 313 to finish with a three-day total of (301-312-313) 926 or 50-over par for the tournament.
Brittany Fan paced the Buffaloes in the final round and earned her first top-10 finish of the season. Fan led the entire 80 player field in pars as she collected 43 over three days. She recorded a team-best three-day total of 6-over par 225 to finish tied for seventh overall. Fan was solid through the whole tournament keeping a steady game and the final round was no different. On the front nine of round three, she carded eight straight pars. Although, she collected three bogeys on the back side she rebounded with a birdie and five pars.
Senior Esther Lee wrapped up the event with a 3-over par 76 performance, which gave her a 229 or 10-over par three-day total. Lee notched a strong final round, only struggling on one hole, No. 18 when she had a rare double-bogey. Otherwise, she finished the day with 14 pars and a birdie. Lee moved up four places on the leaderboard to finish in 14th place overall recording her fourth top-20 finish of the year.
Kirsty Hodgkins carded an 8-over par 81 on Tuesday and finished with a 235 three-day total for the tournament. In the final round, Hodgkins pared six holes on the front nine but got caught up at hole 14-17 and added four straight bogeys to her scorecard. She tied for 29th overall and collected 32 pars over the three rounds.
Robyn Choi recorded a final round 81 or 8-over par. She struggled on the front nine of the final round collecting five bogeys, but settled down to fire off five straight pars. Choi finished tied for 42nd place with her 78-80-81-239, 54-hole score.
Sophomore Gillian Vance shot 7-over par, 80 here in the last round on the 6,357-yard, par 73 course and posted a 241 or 22-over par 54-hole total. Vance shot a four over on the front side and plus-3 on the back as she slightly improved from her first round score from Monday by two strokes. Vance had a team high two birdies on the third round along with eight pars and eight bogeys to finish tied for 52nd place overall.
Lilia Vu of UCLA defeated CSU Fullerton's Martina Edberg to win the tournament title at 219 while Edberg carded a 220 three-day total to finish second. Casey Danielson, Mariel Galdiano and Albane Valenzuela all tied for third place overall with a three-day total of 223.

"Overall this was a great learning experience for what difficult courses will bring for this spring and in the postseason," Head coach Anne Kelly said. "Our team hung in there well and I was happy for Brittany and her 7th place finish in a very strong field."
The 15-team field was comprised of seven top-50 teams ranked on GolfStat, including the top-2 ranked teams in the country in Stanford and USC. No. 1 ranked Stanford held steady the entire tournament and held off runner-up, UCLA by one stroke to win the tournament. USC finished in third overall with a three-day total of 913 while the Buffs held onto fourth place at 926. "We continue to make progress and will have a bit of time to work on a few things prior to the UCLA match play event," Kelly said.
