Buffs Open Seawolf Invite with Pair of Top 10 Performances

Max Luukko places fifth in men’s giant slalom, Tonje Trulsrud sixth in women’s giant slalom
GIRDWOOD, Alaska – The University of Colorado alpine teams opened up four days of skiing in Alaska Wednesday with the running of the men's and women's giant slalom races in the Seawolf Invitational at Alyeska Resort.

Colorado sits in sixth place with 114 points after the first day of competition that saw the Buffs record a pair of top 10 finishes.

Sophomore Tonje Trulsrud was the top finisher in the giant slalom for the women's alpine team, coming in sixth place. She has now finished in the top 10 in all seven races this season.

Nora Christensen was 20th for the Buffs, Katie Hostetler placed 29th and Megan McGrew 30th. The women's alpine team finished the day sixth in team points with 55.

Max Luukko led the charge on the men's side, who as a team finished in fifth place with 59 points.

Luukko placed fifth Wednesday, his fifth finish this season being in the top five with four of those coming in giant slalom races.

Ola Johansen competed for the first time since the opening week of the season. After missing the two races at the Utah Invitational due to injury, he was back in action Wednesday and placed 30th. Roger Carry finished 19th and Bobby Moyer 21st. Freshman David Ketterer did not race, as he finished up competing at the FIS World Cup in Austria theday prior on Tuesday.

The schedule of events for the alpine races was altered for Thursday. Now up next for CU will be the slalom races of the Seawolf Invitation to finish out that portion of the meet.
