QUOTABLE (Head Coach Mark Wetmore)
Opening Statement
"At this time of the year we're looking for a couple of things. We look for people making progress, marks that will help us on a conference level and people hitting marks that will qualify for the NCAA preliminary round. We got about four or five of the latter today."
Â
On CU's Strong Performance In The 400 Hurdles
"The two guys in the 400 hurdles [Jaron Thomas and Trenton Stringari], those marks will get them into the regionals and they're personal bests for them. The two women in the 400 hurdles [Gabby Scott and Eriana Henderson], their marks might not get them into prelims but I think that once they get to sea level against more stiff competition, they'll get in. Not quite yet but that's coming soon."
Â
On Duane McClurkin Jr's Performance
"Duane [McClurkin Jr]'s mark in the 200, I think that'll get into NCAA prelims but he has a few races to go. Judging by where it was a year ago, that mark will get in. He had a good weekend. He won the high jump and was a part of two relay teams that did well so he can rest for a couple of days."
Â
On Three Buffs Finishing In Top Three In The 1500
"The men in the 1500, it was a deliberate race just to try to get qualifying marks. I think here of them did and one of them just missed. But this is the opening event for the distance runners for the outdoor track season so they had a lot of stuff coming."
Â
On The Performance Of Freshmen Sage Hurta and Tabor Schull In The Women's Steeplechase
"Two freshmen ran their first steeplechases ever, was actually the first practice ever for either of them [Sage Hurta and Tabor Schull]. Both of them made NCAA marks so we have some good steeplechases coming in the future. Both of them ran faster in their debuts at elevation than the American record holder did so that's a pretty good debut."
